Jonathan Martin, author of Giving Wisely, has written this incredibly important book about the great temptation of leadership - to build your own kingdom. In this book, he unveils how this temptation, which he names "the King Saul Syndrome," can affect all of us. By comparing and contrasting King Saul and Jonathan in the Bible, he shows us how we can find new freedom in our leadership as we give the kingdom away to others. This is an important and must read for anyone in a leadership position who wants to do leadership the right way.

How does this book only have a handful of reviews? More people need to read this book!I attend leadership conferences occasionally like most people and they more or less all focus on the same thing: how to get people to follow you. In reality, leadership is about seeking the good of the other. This often means living like Jonathan who sought to promote David rather than holding onto his position as the son of King Saul. It's a refreshing study of leadership and I really hope more people will check it out.

Breaking the King Saul Syndrome edition by Jonathan Martin Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
This is a book all Christians need to understand if not read. It really makes sense as to why our churches are so difficult to change.
Jonathan Martin's incisive new book helps other pastors recognize the "the King Saul Syndrome" in Christian ministy. Martin reveals how as a youth, Saul was a humble, self-effacing donkey herder. However, after becoming the leader of Israel, Saul grows into a prideful and self-promoting king. Martin explains how even today leaders are in danger of the King Saul Syndrome. Packed with scripture quotes and lessons, Martin provides a practical road map for pastors and will encourage church leaders at all levels.
This is an excellent little book. Every pastor should read it. . .and not just pastors. Each and every one of us who desires to do the Lord's work should apply the book's principles to our lives. We must guard against getting "above ourselves."
This should be required reading for EVERY single pastor and missionary out there. In fact, EVERYONE involved in ministry--whether you are the one in leadership or whether you are the one under someone else's leadership--should read this book. Frankly, so should all of those involved in business. Or family. Or any other situation where you interact with other people. In other words, anyone who was, is, or will be, in a leadership position of any kind, or under someone else's leadership, should read this book. It's a quick and easy read, but jam-packed with solid Biblical and practical insight into some of the biggest issues related to leadership and legacy in the church today. And all of the principals can be applied to successful leadership in the secular world as well. In my opinion this is one of the best "bang for your buck" books out there! READ IT and APPLY IT! You (and the people you lead) won't be disappointed!
I really liked this book. I am currently in a leadership role and this book really helped remember what God has called us as disciples but also as leaders to do effectively advance HIS kingdom even if we have to forfeit our own
Leadership is a heart directed. If our hearts are divided, our leadership will be self-centered and self-directed. God gives grace to the humble is an everlasting truth.
When we get our eyes focused on ourselves everything revolves around us. But if we remember that ministry is a calling of God and it is His ministry then we will not be acting as King Saul.
